Toughened Glass

Toughened Glass is a Grade A safety glass that has been heat-treated to significantly increase its strength and resistance to impact and thermal stress.

Toughened Glass

Processed to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 2208, it is commonly specified where safety glazing is required. When broken, Toughened Glass shatters into small, blunt-edged fragments, reducing the risk of serious injury compared to standard annealed glass.

Features & Benefits

  • Up to five times stronger than standard annealed glass.*

  • Grade A safety glass processed to AS/NZS 2208.

  • Increased resistance to impact and thermal stress.

  • Breaks into small, blunt-edged fragments for improved safety.

  • Available in Clear, Ultra Clear, Tinted, Low-E, Decorative Glass and Reflect Silver Plus.

*Strength varies depending on glass thickness, size and application.

Product Considerations

  • Once toughened, glass cannot be further processed or modified. All cutting, drilling, shaping, edgework and other fabrication must be completed prior to the toughening process.

  • Roller wave and slight optical distortion are inherent characteristics of the toughening process.

  • Heat soaking is recommended where reducing the risk of spontaneous breakage is a project requirement.

  • For applications requiring post-breakage integrity, laminated safety glass may be a more suitable option.
