ToughStorm™

ToughStorm™ is Tough Glass's custom laminated cyclonic safety glass, engineered to resist the impact of wind-borne debris during cyclones and severe storm events.

ToughStorm™

Designed for use in approved cyclonic window and door systems, ToughStorm™ helps provide the strength and impact resistance required for buildings located in Australia's designated cyclonic regions. Each ToughStorm™ glass construction is designed to work as part of a tested glazing system, delivering reliable performance where protection from extreme weather conditions is essential.

Engineered for Cyclonic Conditions

ToughStorm™ has been developed for use in conjunction with approved cyclonic framing systems and is tested in accordance with AS/NZS 1170.2:2021. As part of the testing process, the complete glazing system is subjected to impact testing using:

  • A 4kg timber projectile travelling at 44m/s.

  • An 8mm diameter steel ball travelling at 44m/s.

  • This testing is designed to simulate wind-borne debris generated by cyclones and severe storms.

Product Specifications

  • ToughStorm™ must be installed as part of an approved cyclonic glazing system tested for the applicable wind region and project requirements. Glass alone does not provide compliance with AS/NZS 1170.2:2021.

  • Glass construction should be selected to suit the wind classification and project requirements.

  • All fabrication, including holes, cut-outs and edgework, must be completed prior to lamination.

  • Technical support is available to assist with product selection and system compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

ToughStorm™ is designed for use in approved cyclonic glazing systems for Region C and Region D applications. The glass construction must be selected to suit the nominated wind region, building classification and project requirements.

Yes. ToughStorm™ is manufactured to order and can be customised to suit individual project requirements. Glass thickness, laminate construction, glass type and panel size are selected based on the required cyclonic performance.

Yes. ToughStorm™ must be installed as part of an approved cyclonic glazing system. Compliance is achieved through the performance of the complete glazing system, including both the glass and the framing. Speak to the Tough Glass team for assistance selecting the appropriate ToughStorm™ glass construction and approved framing system for your project.

No. Every ToughStorm™ panel is custom manufactured to suit the project's specific cyclonic performance requirements. Glass construction, panel size and glazing configuration are selected based on the nominated wind region and the approved framing system.

Yes. ToughStorm™ can be manufactured using KeneticPlus Low-E Glass or incorporated into a ToughEco™ Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) where improved thermal performance is required, subject to project-specific design and testing requirements.
