ToughSound™

ToughSound™ is a custom laminated acoustic safety glass manufactured by permanently bonding two or more panes of glass using a specialised acoustic PVB interlayer.

ToughSound™

Designed to reduce the transmission of unwanted noise while maintaining the safety and security benefits of laminated glass, ToughSound™ provides a quieter and more comfortable indoor environment. Available in a range of glass types and interlayer thicknesses, ToughSound™ can be customised to suit the acoustic and performance requirements of your project.

Laminated privacy glass separating a quiet interior space.

What is an Acoustic PVB Interlayer?

Unlike standard PVB interlayers, acoustic PVB is specifically engineered to dampen sound vibrations as they pass through the glass.

This helps reduce the transmission of external noise while maintaining the structural integrity and safety performance of laminated glass.

Depending on the glass construction, ToughSound™ can achieve a reduction of up to 10 decibels within the transparent frequency range, significantly improving acoustic comfort in residential and commercial buildings.

Features & Benefits

  • Grade A safety glass manufactured to AS/NZS 2208 .

  • Specialised acoustic PVB interlayer helps reduce unwanted noise transmission.

  • Can achieve up to 10dB sound reduction, depending on the glass construction.

  • Blocks up to 99% of UV radiation , helping protect interior furnishings from fading.

  • Available in a wide range of glass types and interlayer thicknesses.

  • Can be fabricated with custom shapes, holes, cut-outs and polished edges prior to lamination.

Enhanced Acoustic & Thermal Performance

For projects requiring both acoustic insulation and improved thermal performance, ToughSound™ can be incorporated into a ToughEco Plus Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) .

Combining the acoustic benefits of ToughSound™ with the insulating performance of ToughEco Plus creates a glazing solution that helps improve both occupant comfort and energy efficiency.

Product Considerations

  • Acoustic performance is dependent on the overall glass construction, including glass thickness, interlayer configuration and framing system.

  • Where Toughened Glass is specified, Tough Glass recommends a minimum 1.52mm acoustic PVB interlayer to achieve the optimum laminated glass construction.

  • TG Sound™ can be incorporated into ToughEco™ Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) where enhanced acoustic and thermal performance is required.

  • All cutting, drilling, shaping and edgework must be completed prior to lamination.

  • Performance data is available to assist with selecting the most appropriate glass configuration for your project.
