What is heat soaking and can you offer this service? Heat soaking is an additional process applied to glass only after it has been toughened. It is designed to decrease the likelihood of toughened glass breaking after installation, the heat soak process will help identify impurities such as nickel sulphide inclusions during the prolonged, controlled heat cycle. Tough Glass are able to offer heat soaking. Find out more here; Heat soaked glass ‘vs’ heat strengthened glass.
I need to match an existing panel that has broken, what do I do? Matching existing glass panels can be challenging given how customised glass selections have become. Ideally, you need to find existing building plans, glass certifications or an addenda with specifications of the original glass make up. If this cannot be found your next best option is to source the original glazier and check if they have the glass make ups on record. If there is no record, you will need to engage with a glazier who can site assess and go through the process of finding alternate solutions to try and achieve what is required. If you are in the process of installing a new commercial project, keep a record of the glass make ups and the supplier in case of a breakage in the future. This is a one of the many benefits of using a local glass processor as in most cases we can assist with a new panel in a timely manner reducing inflated costs of importing replacements from overseas.
It is best practice to consult with a qualified glazier who can provide advice on selection and installation of commercial doors and windows, glass and glazing whilst ensuring regulations are met and glass safety is not compromised. We have a range of customers we can happily recommend.
